Heat and Electricity Generation

Karaganda Energocenter LLP

Karaganda Energocenter LLP

Karaganda Energocenter LLP is the main producer of electric and heat power in Karaganda City. The partnership was formed on December 22, 2008.

The energy complex structure includes:

  • CHPP-1 (with installed electric capacity of 32 MW and available heat output of 263 Gcal/h);
  • CHPP-3 (with installed electric capacity of 670 MW and available heat output of 1052 Gcal/h).
  • The sole owner of the Company is Kazakhstan Utility Systems LLP, which owns 100% of its share capital.
  • Number of employees is about 1,300 people.

KEC Investment Program (2010-2015 years):

  • CHPP-1: Upgrading the main equipment;
  • CHPP-3: Upgrading and reconstructing existing facilities, in order to bring the evaporation capacity of the boiler and turbine equipment to the nominal value (2010-2015 years):
  • I stage: Expanding the capacity of CHPP-3 by mounting a turbine unit №5 T-120/140-12.8 (was held in 2011),mounting a tower, reconstruction of belt conveyors (was held during the period of 2010-2014).
  • II stage: Installing a boiler unit №8 (evaporation capacity of 670 t/h), a turbine unit T-110/115-13.8  №6, as well as a blower type cooling tower with the capacity of 25,000m3/h (The project was implemented in 2016).

Implementation of these projects has allowed to reduce significantly the current energy deficit of energy system and to improve the reliability of electric and heat power supply to consumers.
