At Karaganda CHPP-3, construction of a new power unit has begun. The project, worth 134.6 billion tenge, will provide the region with additional electricity and heat supply resources.
The ceremonial capsule-laying event was attended by the Akim of the region, Yermaganbet Bulekpaev, Vice Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sungat Yessimkhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of the Eurasian Development Bank Ruslan Dalenov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kazakhstan Utility Systems LLP Dinmukhamet Idrissov, General Director of Kazakhstan Utility Systems LLP Sabyrgali Idrissov, as well as the management of Karaganda EnergoCenter LLP.
“Today, in Karaganda, we are launching the construction of a new power unit at CHPP-3. This event is of special importance not only for our city but for the entire region. We are embarking on a project that will serve as a powerful driver of industrial, social, and economic development. The commissioning of this unit will provide Karaganda with an additional 140 megawatts of electricity and 180 gigacalories of heat per hour. This means stability, new opportunities for industry, confidence for businesses, and comfort for residents. The construction will also create new jobs, help our specialists improve their skills, and support the development of the local engineering school. Most importantly, this project will strengthen the energy security not only of the Karaganda region but of the entire country,” said Yermaganbet Bulekpaev.
The project, worth 134.6 billion tenge, is expected to be completed by 2028. A new boiler unit and turbine generator will be built. This will make it possible to heat more than 400 new apartment buildings and social facilities, thus providing the city with an energy reserve for expansion and further development.“The energy sector requires well-balanced steps — investments, modernization, and reliability. With the launch of this new power unit, over 400 residential and social facilities will be provided with heating. In addition, the project not only addresses one of the city’s most pressing issues — the reliable supply of heat and electricity — but also creates 55 new jobs, contributing to the economic revitalization of the region,” emphasized Dinmukhamet Idrissov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of KUS Group.
On behalf of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Vice Minister Sungat Yessimkhanov congratulated the participants on the start of construction:
“Such large-scale projects are essential: they have a major impact on the power system not only of the region but of the entire country. We are ready to support them,” said Sungat Yessimkhanov.
The project is being implemented in strategic partnership with the Eurasian Development Bank.“The Eurasian Development Bank is an international organization. Over the past four years alone, the Bank’s investment portfolio in Kazakhstan has reached $5 billion, with energy always at the center of attention. The expansion of Karaganda CHPP-3 is a vivid example of effective partnership between the EDB, government agencies, and business. Together, we are building a solid foundation for the energy security and sustainable development of the region,” noted Ruslan Dalenov, Deputy Chairman of the EDB Management Board.
